Edexcel International GCSE · 4MA1

Edexcel iGCSE Maths.
The 4MA1 spec.
Treated properly.

iGCSE is not GCSE. Different spec, different papers, different content scope. Every resource here is built specifically for the Edexcel 4MA1 specification — not the AQA or Pearson GCSE it often gets confused with.

Spec alignment

Built on the spec.
Not on guesswork.

The 4MA1 specification is distinct from UK GCSE — different content (no statistics at Foundation, harder algebra at Higher), different papers (two 2-hour papers per tier), and a genuinely international cohort. The generator treats it as its own qualification, not a re-skin of GCSE.

Why it matters: Generic AI tools write plausible-looking resources that miss spec points, use the wrong command words, or pitch the wrong tier. Edexcel iGCSE Maths resources from Print My Lesson are built on a structured database of spec points, so every question, slide, and mark scheme is anchored to what students will actually be assessed on.

Built by Alex
Maths & Physics Teacher, Kent
KS3–KS5 classroom teacher who marks the papers and knows the difference between what the spec demands and what generic AI produces.
Example spec coverage
  • 1Numbers and the number system
  • 2Equations, formulae and identities
  • 3Sequences, functions and graphs
  • 4Geometry — angles, shapes, circles
  • 5Vectors and transformation geometry
  • 6Statistics and probability (Higher)
  • H-onlyHigher content — functions, calculus basics
  • H-onlyHigher content — quadratic inequalities, sets

Who it's for

For iGCSE teachers at international schools and UK independents.

iGCSE is most commonly taken at international schools globally, and at UK independent schools that prefer the 4MA1 spec over AQA/OCR GCSE. If that's you, this is built for you specifically — not a UK GCSE tool with a coat of paint.

International school teachers delivering the full 4MA1 syllabus
UK independent school maths departments using Edexcel iGCSE
Teachers preparing students for the January and May/June exam series
HODs building resource libraries aligned to 4MA1, not 1MA1
Tutors working 1-to-1 with iGCSE students needing targeted practice

What teachers ask first

The questions
you're already thinking.

Does it actually know iGCSE differs from GCSE?
Yes. Statistics is excluded from Foundation, functions and harder algebra are included at Higher, and the paper structure (two 2-hour papers, not three) is respected. It's not a UK GCSE tool pretending to cover iGCSE.
Does it handle the calculator / non-calculator split?
Both 4MA1 papers allow calculators, but Paper 1 tends to be more algebra-heavy and Paper 2 more application-heavy. You can specify the paper focus when generating.
What about the Higher-only content?
Topics like functions (including inverse and composite), calculus-style gradient questions, and advanced trigonometric identities are included at Higher only, as the spec intends.
Are the mark schemes in Edexcel's style?
Yes. M marks for method, A marks for accuracy, B marks for independent facts. Mark allocation reflects how Edexcel examiners actually split credit across working.
Does it use proper mathematical notation?
Yes. Fraction bars, exponents, set builder notation, function notation — rendered correctly on screen and in exports. Not 'x^2' as plain text.
Finally something that knows iGCSE isn't GCSE. Most tools I've tried default to UK GCSE and miss half the spec.

Honest about where we fit

When to use us.
When not to.

We're not right for every job. Here's an honest picture of where other tools win and where we do.

Use them
Edexcel past papers (January and May/June series)
The most authoritative practice source. You should absolutely use these. The limit is finite supply — there's only so many, students memorise them, and you can't target a sub-topic.
Use us
Print My Lesson
Unlimited 4MA1-styled practice for any sub-topic. Excellent for starters, intervention, and post-mock revision once students have exhausted the real past papers.
Use them
Pearson Active Learn / MyMaths
Good digital homework platforms with auto-marking. Can feel generic and hard to tailor to specific sub-topics at specific difficulties.
Use us
Print My Lesson
Print-ready or digital resources tailored to the exact topic, tier, and difficulty you want — for direct classroom use rather than homework auto-marking.
Use them
Generic AI (ChatGPT)
Generally unreliable for iGCSE — confuses it with GCSE, uses inconsistent notation, and mark schemes are fabricated. Fine for you to sense-check an explanation.
Use us
Print My Lesson
4MA1-aware, properly notated, with mark schemes modelled on how Edexcel examiners actually credit working.
