Spec alignment

Built on the spec.
Not on guesswork.

Maths resources are grounded in structured curriculum data — the KS3 Programme of Study (for Years 7–9) and the Edexcel International GCSE 4MA1 specification. Difficulty is scaffolded, not stepped: students move from fluency through reasoning to problem-solving without hitting a wall.

Why it matters: Generic AI tools write plausible-looking resources that miss spec points, use the wrong command words, or pitch the wrong tier. Maths resources from Print My Lesson are built on a structured database of spec points, so every question, slide, and mark scheme is anchored to what students will actually be assessed on.

Built by Alex
Maths & Physics Teacher, Kent
KS3–KS5 classroom teacher who marks the papers and knows the difference between what the spec demands and what generic AI produces.
Example spec coverage
  • KS3Number — fractions, decimals, percentages, standard form
  • KS3Algebra — expressions, equations, sequences
  • KS3Ratio, proportion and rates of change
  • KS3Geometry — properties, constructions, transformations
  • KS3Probability and statistics
  • 4MA1-1iGCSE: Numbers and the number system
  • 4MA1-2iGCSE: Equations, formulae and identities
  • 4MA1-3iGCSE: Sequences, functions and graphs
  • 4MA1-4iGCSE: Geometry and trigonometry
  • 4MA1-5iGCSE: Vectors and transformation geometry
  • 4MA1-6iGCSE: Statistics and probability

Who it's for

For maths teachers who want differentiated, not watered-down.

The hardest part of making a maths resource isn't writing questions — it's getting the difficulty curve right. Too steep and Foundation students shut down. Too shallow and Higher tier students finish in ten minutes and get bored. Print My Lesson gets this right because it was designed by someone who's taught it badly and learned.

KS3 teachers who want to build fluency before pushing into GCSE prep
iGCSE teachers (Edexcel 4MA1 specifically — different from AQA/OCR GCSE)
Maths HODs building consistent resources across a team
Teachers covering topics outside their confidence zone
Anyone tired of textbook exercises that finish in five minutes
Real examples

What teachers ask first

The questions
you're already thinking.

Does it know the iGCSE is different from GCSE?
Yes. Edexcel iGCSE (4MA1) has its own spec — no statistics, includes harder algebra and trigonometry, different tier structure. The generator treats it as a distinct qualification, not GCSE with a relabel.
Does it show working?
Yes. Mark schemes show method marks (M), accuracy marks (A) and final answers — the way an examiner marks. Not just 'the answer is 12'.
Is the notation correct?
Yes. Proper mathematical notation — fraction bars, exponents, set builder notation where appropriate. No 'x^2' text rendering.
Calculator or non-calculator?
You can specify when generating. Non-calculator questions are designed to be genuinely non-calculator, not the same questions with awkward numbers.
Every worksheet I'd ever made for quadratics was either too easy or a cliff. This scaffolds properly.

Honest about where we fit

When to use us.
When not to.

We're not right for every job. Here's an honest picture of where other tools win and where we do.

Use them
Textbook exercises (CGP, MathsWatch)
Tried, tested, well-scaffolded. Downside: every class gets the same questions every year, students have seen them, and you can't target a specific weakness quickly.
Use us
Print My Lesson
Fresh questions generated for your exact topic and class, with a difficulty curve you can adjust. No student has seen them before, and you can regenerate for next year.
Use them
Generic AI (ChatGPT, Claude)
Can write a question. Often gets the maths wrong, uses informal notation, and has no sense of iGCSE vs GCSE. Mark schemes are often fabricated and inconsistent.
Use us
Print My Lesson
A proper question set with notation rendered correctly, a mark scheme that matches how Edexcel actually marks, and a tier that actually matches what you asked for.
